Junior Musical Sessions

Announcing our Summer 2022 JR Musical Session

Sunset Playhouse School for the Arts is committed to giving our students the opportunity to learn and create.  The current health crisis is changing the way we educate and the way we experience the arts.  Sunset Playhouse is excited to offer our Winter 2022 In-Person Session of classes and performance opportunities.

PLEASE NOTE: Throughout the pandemic, our commitment has been to follow CDC guidelines based on COVID-19 community levels and adjust our policies as recommended. Based on the most recent guidance, Sunset Playhouse has determined masks will no longer be required to attend a performance, rehearsal or class at Sunset Playhouse.

Per the CDC, if you are at high risk for severe illness you should talk to your healthcare provider about whether you need to continue wearing a mask in public. Certainly, all patrons, volunteers and students are free to wear masks if they feel more comfortable doing so, and we will have them available if needed.

Sunset Playhouse has created extensive pandemic guidelines for the safety of our patrons, performers, volunteers, students, and staff. Over the past two years, these have been routinely modified based on CDC recommendations, along with our desire to ensure the safety of everyone who visits or works in our building.

Disney’s Newsies JR. is a 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film. Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.

When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right.

Including the now-classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart.
