Novelist Charles Condomine, invites local medium Madame Arcati to his home to help him research the spirit world for a new book. Unfortunately, he gets more than he bargained for when Arcati conjures up, the ghost of his first wife, Elvira. Once in his house, Elvira is unable to leave and, as she cannot be seen or heard by second wife, Ruth, she causes all kinds of mischievous trouble between Charles and Ruth.
Caught between a living wife and a dead one, Charles thinks matters couldn’t get worse, but he is so wrong!
