SUNSET SPOTLIGHT – Brian Zelinski. Brian is playing Scrooge in our Holiday production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL and will direct THE FOREIGNER in the Spring of 2016.
- When did you first become involved at Sunset Playhouse and what areas have you been involved with here at the Playhouse?
In 1997 I was in PLAYING DOCTOR a crazy farce and I played Chuck Murdock, the jackass from next door. I have since acted or directed in about 30 shows at Sunset.
- If you are working on a Sunset show right now, what is your role?
I am Ebenezer Scrooge in A CHRISTMAS CAROL right now.
- If an actor, what has been your favorite role to date and what is your dream role?
Honestly, don’t have a favorite role, have had many I loved playing very much. Wally in WALLY’S CAFE Marcus in THUNDER AT DAWN, Doctor Thomas Stockmann in AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE are all up there, but truly none that stand out as the best. Still am waiting to play Oscar Madison in THE ODD COUPLE I have played Felix and I have directed the show twice but have never played the role I have always wanted to play since I started doing this in high school.
- What do you enjoy most about the Sunset?
Everyone usually pulling in one direction and egos are generally left at the door. There is such a strong group of volunteers here and they are always dedicated to do their best for every show. Amazing what all these people put together accomplish.
- When not at Sunset, how do you spend your time?
As much time as I can I am with my 5 year old sin Lukas, my 6 month old daughter Susie and my wife Erika. They make me whole and keep me grounded. I am the New Business Development Mgr. at Remote Operations Company which keeps us fed. I also direct and act at other theaters in the area.
- What is your favorite color/food/movie/TV show/book/musical or play?
Red/Black/Prime Rib/IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE/THE GREEN MILE very close to pick one/DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY/I am a huge JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR fan. Can’t count how many times I have seen it. Have never been in the show.
- What is your favorite quote?
It doesn’t matter if you feel useful going from one disaster to another–the trick is to just keep moving.
- Any other comments?
My wife and I had our wedding reception here at Sunset Playhouse so this place is very much my and my families home away from home. My son Lukas calls it our theater house so who am I to disagree ?
