DOUG JARECKI

Doug Jarecki, who is currently playing Joseph/Melchior in ‘TWAS THE MONTH BEFORE CHRISTMAS and who is also the author of this hilarious show, now in the Sunset Spotlight.

  1. When did you first become involved at Sunset Playhouse and what areas have you been involved with here at the Playhouse?

I was cast in Bus Stop in 1998 as a 21 year old cowboy, so yeah, it’s been a little while.  It’s also where former Associate Director (and current co-star) John Cramer hired me to teach acting classes for the first time.  A decision he regrets to this day, I’m sure.

  1. If you are working on a Sunset show right now, what is your role?

I am currently acting in ‘TWAS THE MONTH BEFORE CHRISTMAS, a play which I also wrote.  This my first time back on the Sunset stage in over twenty years, and it’s been like a homecoming……..but without the wrist corsage.

  1. If an actor, what has been your favorite role to date and what is your dream role? If a Production Team member, which show have you most enjoyed working on? What show would you like to do in the future?

My favorite role in a Sunset show was probably the last show I did here, playing Nick in OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS.  It’s a wonderful play that is both hysterically funny and touching at the same time.

  1. What do you enjoy most about the Sunset?

The people.  Without a doubt.  Some of my best memories are of the people I’ve gotten to work with here (even Erika Navin!).  And when you’re surrounded by people who enthusiastically donate their time, talent, and energy to the cause of ‘putting on a show’, it makes you appreciate the whole process even more.

  1. When not at Sunset, how do you spend your time?

I’ve recently started travelling to senior residences to teach improv classes.  I can’t tell you how much fun it’s been.  I mean, I could, but I’m on a word count here.

  1. What is your favorite color/food/movie/TV show/book/musical or play?

Color: Blue

Food: All-U-Can-Eat

Movie: Rocky

TV Show: The Carol Burnett Show

Book: anything with lots of pictures

Musical or Play: Well, I have to say ‘TWAS THE MONTH BEFORE CHRISTMAS, right?

  1. What is your favorite quote?

“There are three kinds of people in the world—those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what the heck happened.”

  1. Any other comments?

I have four brothers who all jump at the chance to insult me, and even they love ‘Twas The Month Before Christmas.  If that’s not a ringing endorsement, I don’t know what is.
