Kate Dombrowski

Kate Dombrowski who is currently costuming THE CURIOS SAVAGE, our next Furlan Auditorium production which runs February 28 – March 17, 2019,  now in the Sunset Spotlight.

  1. When did you first become involved at Sunset Playhouse and what areas have you been involved with here at the Playhouse?

I am currently in my 4th season with Sunset.  My primary area has been costuming; however, as of the last Volunteer Recognition Night, I have taken on the role of “Dessert Lady”, providing the sweet treats for the end of the dinner.

  1. If you are working on a Sunset show right now, what is your role?
I am costuming “The Curious Savage”.
  1. If an actor, what has been your favorite role to date and what is your dream role? If a Production Team member, which show have you most enjoyed working on? What show would you like to do in the future?

This is a tough question.  As my favorite show, I would have to choose “And Then There Were None”.  I love the forties, I love Agatha Christie and I loved the challenge of the grey-black-white palette (with a touch of red).

I would love to costume “Charlie’s Aunt”.

  1. What do you enjoy most about the Sunset?

Question 3 was difficult, because I truly enjoyed all of the shows I’ve costumed for Sunset.  Staying connected with theater, following my retirement as a librarian and middle school director; going back to my roots as a techie; using my sense of fashion, and ability in the area of clothing construction; using my library skills in researching historical periods; and, most importantly, getting to know and collaborate with so many terrific actors and technicians, and the great administrative staff, have all contributed to the enjoyment and satisfaction I have found here.

  1. When not at Sunset, how do you spend your time?

A great deal of my time is taken up with our 5 and 8-year-old granddaughters, who, with our daughter, have moved to within a 10-minute walk of us.  I am a member of a book club and of the Greendale Public Library Board.  I substitute teach for the Greendale schools, quilt and sew, cook and bake, and read-a lot!  My husband and I travel, camp, and are members of the Milwaukee Public and Milwaukee Art Museums.  We enjoy jazz and Big Band music; and make the rounds of local thrift and book stores, and estate and rummage sales. (As well as seeking them out in almost every city we visit)

  1. What is your favorite color/food/movie/TV show/book/musical or play?

Personal favorites are: almost any shade of blue, for color; and dark chocolate paired with a red wine, for the food/drink choice.  My favorite movie is a Gene Tierney/Dana Andrews mystery, “Laura”.  I’m not much of a regular television viewer; but I really enjoy “The Big Bang Theory”.  Since the age of 10, my favorite book has been “Jane Eyre”, by Charlotte Bronte.   I would travel a reasonable distance to see any production of Moliere’s “Tartuffe” or “Charlie’s Aunt”; and so far, my favorite musical is “Mamma Mia”.

  1. What is your favorite quote?

“Never judge a book by its movie”
