Alexandra Smith- All Shook Up

How did you first start volunteering at Sunset?

I first started volunteering at Sunset in Fall, 2025. The first show that I performed in was as a featured dancer as well as in the ensemble was in the show, Pippin. I met so many talented and kind people through that process. That show truly was a wonderful experience and made me want to come back and do more shows here at Sunset!

Do you have a funny Sunset Story?

During opening night for All Shook Up here at Sunset, I went through the show with normal opening night jitters. All went well, but then right at the end of the show during bows, while also being in the front row, I was waving goodbye to my friends and family and without even realizing it, the curtain was closing! It ran right into me and almost knocked me over in front of a full audience!

When you’re not at Sunset, what do you like to do?

Outside of Sunset, I work at Apple Ridge Academy in a Toddler classroom! I love playing and educating the kiddos while helping them grow. Each day is a new and fun adventure with them. In my free time I love to spend time outdoors going on walks with my friends. I love to go to concerts and see live theatre whenever I get the chance! Music is a big part of my life, so whenever there’s an opportunity to go to a concert, I’m there!

What’s your favorite part about theater?

One of the best parts of theatre is that you can express yourself in ways that you aren’t able to express in a typical everyday setting. Theatre is an escape from the real world for all who are involved, not just for the actors, but audiences as well. I can be a person or character that helps me tap into different emotions or feelings that I might not have been in tune with before. Theatre provides comfort to feel your emotions as they are. And I am so grateful to be able to provide comfort and joy for audiences. As that is what performing does for me.
