Allison Chicorel – Unnecessary Farce

How did you first start volunteering at Sunset?

May of 2012.   I played Tess in Six Degrees of Separation.

Do you have a funny Sunset Story?

Oh wow so many…. One that comes to mind, back in 2012 during the show a bee got into the theater and was flying around the stage.  It ended up getting into an actor’s costume during a big dramatic monologue! Yikes! She was okay but understandably it distressed her, so as she came back into the dressing room she was in tears and my dog was in the dressing room and greeted her at the door (I had permission from the Artistic Director at the time to have him in there) and she immediately flipped from panicking over the bee incident to cooing and snuggling the dog all smiles and kisses. Like, immediate switch.

When you’re not at Sunset, what do you like to do?

I work at The Box Theatre in Oconomowoc and that takes up 100% of my time when I’m not on stage elsewhere.  I take care of administrative duties there along with directing, choreographing and teaching.    It’s a very time consuming job so I am very grateful whenever the timing works out and I have the opportunity to participate at another theater such as Sunset.

What’s your favorite part about theater?

When you’re a kid you like to play pretend, and I suppose I never outgrew that.   If anything I became more and more interested in playing.  I love diving into a character, collaborating with others and creating awesome ways to tell stories whether they’re crazy and silly like Unnecessary Farce or more sweet and heartwarming like the current After Sunset Series play, Now & Then.    It’s the best form of story telling and entertainment, in my opinion.  I also just love vibing with a cast and making audiences laugh.   Sorry, that was probably too many answers.
