How did you first start volunteering at Sunset?
My journey with Sunset began when I was an audience member as a child, coming
to see shows with my musical-loving mom. Fast forward to the year 2000, where I
appeared on stage as Sr. Robert Anne in Nuncrackers. After 21 years overseas, I
returned to the area and my first stop was Sunset. Being a part of the Elf The
Musical cast was magical! This season I have the honor to direct a few of the
SideNotes Cabarets working with incredible musicians. Having the opportunity to
perform and assist Karl with The Best Christmas Pageant Ever has proven to be a
wonderfully creative and fulfilling experience.
Do you have a funny Sunset story?
Telling the story of Little Palko, the one-legged boy that the character Deb pitches
as a story idea, remains today and always, some of the funniest moments on and
off stage. The adventures of Little Palko will continue as he navigates the world on
one leg . If you have a keen eye, you may see Little Palko on stage once again as
you enjoy The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!
When you’re not at Sunset, what do you like to do?
In the fall, you will find me on the sidelines of the soccer pitch at Beloit College
cheering on my favorite player Ben, my incredible son. During the day, I am a
special education teacher in Franklin laughing and learning with super kiddos..
Spending time with family and friends fills my heart and soul while hanging out
with my CrossFit family in Greendale keeps me physically active!
What’s your favorite part about theater?
Creatively, I find that there is no other place that allows me to learn, grow and
think outside the box than in theater. Theater provides an instant community
where people follow their passions both on and off stage nurturing life-long
relationships. The friends I have made have become family.
