How did you first start volunteering at Sunset?
My first show with Sunset was just last year, 2024, when I was cast in the role of Mary Magdalene in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. This has always been one of my favorite shows since I was a young kid, and after taking ten years away from the stage, I was absolutely dying to be a part of it. I was so incredibly honored to be cast in that role and surrounded by such amazing talent!
Do you have a funny Sunset story?
I’m not sure if it’s funny or not, but backstage there is a monitor for the cast and crew to see what is happening onstage and when I am not on the stage, I watch it like I am watching a movie. I am so enthralled in the performances that I get emotional and will even laugh at funny parts and tear up at sad parts, night after night – much to the amusement of my cast-mates!
When you’re not at Sunset, what do you like to do?
I sing with the Bel Canto Chorus – which is very fulfilling and challenges me in the best ways. I like to go walking or hiking in County, State, and National Parks and I love visiting Milwaukee’s lakeshore. I love to dance, be it to live music – or just in my living room!
What’s your favorite part about theater?
My favorite part… is the possibility of bringing a character to life that can hopefully bring more empathy to the audience. Just a little bit more understanding for how another human might experience this thing called life – because we all experience it so differently! It is so much fun for me to delve into another person’s rich history and psyche and try to make them real on stage, even if they’re fictional. I also am an avid theatergoer, and I love to suspend my own disbelief to try to understand another perspective, just to hopefully widen my understanding of this beautiful world we live in.
