Shannon Franklin – The Marvelous Wonderettes

The Marvelous Wonderettes SPOTLIGHT VOLUNTEER is SHANNON FRANKLIN

Shannon is a dedicated volunteer working behind the scenes painting, building sets, and even doing run crew from time to time.  Her hard work does not go unnoticed and we are so grateful Shannon is a part of our Sunset family!

How did you first start volunteering at Sunset?

About a year after graduating I was looking for ways to be active again. I figured helping with theater combined many of my loves so I set out to find somewhere I could help and Sunset was my clear answer. I called and set up a time to tour the theater and I’m so happy to see myself here today.

Do you have a funny backstage story?

Not necessarily funny, but I have enjoyed being labeled the “Cookie Lady” or “Cookie Fairy.” During Hairspray, when I was doing run crew, I’d have a few loyal cast and crew members who would anticipate my arrival with cookies on Sundays. It’s a nice way to get to know the people you’re helping a little better.

When you’re not at Sunset, what do you like to do?

I really am at Sunset most of the time, but I also enjoy reading, writing, baking, and spending time with others (including pets). Or I pair an audiobook or podcast with knitting, embroidering, drawing, or really any other activity that keeps my hands busy.

What’s your favorite part about theater?

My favorite part is seeing how everyone is impacted. Seeing the kids coming back from practicing on the stage for the first time, seeing a group of teenagers coming to support a friend in a musical, or seeing Sunset regulars excited to have experienced a new show. It shows the importance of having accessible art, especially live theater, in a community. I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it.

THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF SUNSET PLAYHOUSE AND OUR PATRONS!
