Susan Loveridge
Sunset could not be more thrilled to point the spotlight on a new volunteer!
How did you first start volunteering at Sunset?
Summer, 1972. I auditioned for and was cast as a “Sharks’ girl” in WEST SIDE STORY–which means I’ve been part of the Playhouse for more than 50 years! As Doris would say, “Oy!”
Do you have a funny Sunset story?
How about meeting my husband here? We served on the board together, he was my leading man in a play, and we’ve been married 30 years! (And no, he’s not Bob Hirschi.)
I’d also like to note that in the ‘third act’ of my life, our Musical MainStage Concert Series has given me a gratifying creative outlet. We’re in our 16th season, more than 60 concerts, and I still get a kick out of each show. I wear many hats for those productions–producer, director, scriptwriter, stagehand, and narrator–and I do it all as a proud volunteer. Just paying it backward, I guess.
When you’re not at Sunset, what do you like to do?
I live here. They’ve given me a key and cleaning rags. During the few minutes I’m outside these walls, it’s mostly about family. I’m fortunate that everyone is local so when we gather, we tease that it’s “just the immediate twenty.”
What’s your favorite part about theater?
Theater is all about community. A new cast becoming family. Old friends who serve side by side on committees. The occasional cocktail to celebrate a good show. To me, nothing’s more important than human connections, and I will always be grateful for the hundreds I’ve made here at the Playhouse.
THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF SUNSET PLAYHOUSE AND OUR PATRONS!
