The Sunset Playhouse School for the Arts is excited to announce the 2027 Bug in a Rug Children’s Theater Season, featuring two delightful productions designed especially for children ages 3–8 and their families.
What is Bug in a Rug Children’s Theater?
Bug in a Rug is an interactive theater program that introduces young audiences to the magic of live performance in a fun, engaging, and age-appropriate way. Each production combines music, storytelling, audience participation, and educational themes to create an unforgettable experience for children.
Perfect for schools, libraries, childcare centers, homeschool groups, and community organizations, Bug in a Rug helps spark creativity while encouraging participation and imaginative play.

We’ll Bring the Show to You
Bug in a Rug performances travel directly to schools, libraries, childcare centers, and community spaces. All that’s needed is a 12′ x 12′ performance area and access to an electrical outlet. Performances have been held in classrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, libraries, and multipurpose rooms throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

Goodnight Lulu
Touring Performances: January 11 – March 26, 2027
Public Performances at Sunset: February 10–13, 2027
Based on Paulette Bogan’s beloved children’s book, this charming musical follows Lulu the chicken, who isn’t quite ready for bedtime. Young audience members help Momma Hen encourage Lulu to settle in for the night through music, laughter, and interactive fun.
Hansel and Goldie
Touring Performances: April 5 – June 11, 2027 (Summer dates available upon request.)
Public Performances at Sunst: April 21–24, 2027
What happens after the fairy tales end? In this original musical, Hansel and Goldilocks unexpectedly meet after getting lost in the woods. Together, they solve puzzles, overcome challenges, and discover that teamwork is the key to finding their way home. Children are invited to join the adventure and help guide the characters along the way.
