What’s Happening at Sunset? August, 2020

August, 2020 Sunset Playhouse Updates

Hello, everyone! We are excited to share some exciting news with you about Sunset Playhouse!

When will Sunset reopen?

Having spent months creating guidelines to ensure the health and safety of our patrons, staff, performers, and volunteers, we plan to open our doors to the public on December 1, 2020.

Upon review of these guidelines, you will be able to determine whether or not it is time for you to return to Sunset Playhouse. This is a decision only you can make for yourself and your family. Of course, we respect whatever choice you make just as we know you will respect our decision to reopen our doors.

What about my Season tickets?

At this time, our small but mighty Box Office staff is processing all season ticket requests in the order they were received. They are doing their absolute best to get you back in “your seats” or as close to the seats you’ve had in the past.

Season ticket orders will be mailed mid-August. Once received, you will have the opportunity to call or email (boxoffice@sunsetplayhouse.com) the box office to discuss your order. If you hold tickets for shows that have recently been cancelled, you will have the option to donate these tickets, receive a gift certificate to use for future shows, or receive a refund for the face value of the tickets.  For fastest service, please email us rather than calling. If you prefer to chat in person we will have that option starting December 1, 2020 when our lobby and box office re-open to the public. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we process your orders.

What about Single tickets?

Single tickets for our earliest 2020–21 productions will go on sale starting December 1, 2020. They can be purchased over the phone, in person at the box office, or via email.

Over the past five months, our fabulous box office staff processed more than 2500 ticket donations, refunds, and gift certificates for unused 2019-20 tickets. We have adopted a new ticket-release strategy in order to avoid a repeat of this monumental task. Until further notice, single tickets will be released show-by-show based on production dates.

What’s coming up in December?

On December 18 & 19 at 7:30 PM we will be presenting a semi-staged reading of PSYCHO BEACH PARTY. This hilarious play (think “Gidget” meets Hitchcock) will be presented in our Furlan Auditorium. Tickets for this “suggested-for-adults-only” performance will be just $10.

PSYCHO BEACH PARTY will be an opportunity to test all of our new safety procedures. After the show, the audience will be invited to participate in a short talk-back to discuss the new guidelines and offer suggestions for improvement. Please note: as stated in the safety guidelines, in order to attend this production you will need to order tickets in person at the box office, over the phone, or via email.

What’s coming up first in the 2020–21 season?

The dazzling 2020–21 season will begin in January, 2021 with limited seating and masks required. Here’s what’s coming up first:

  • 4 WEDDINGS AND AN ELVIS, January 14 – 31, 2021 – a hilarious comedy in the Furlan Auditorium.

  • PROOF, January 21 – 24,  – an After Sunset production in the Marla Eichmann Studio Theater (suggested for adults only).

  • SURF’S UP, January 25 – 26, 2021- the 15th season of our Musical MainStage Concert Series kicks off with the Beach Boys and a new Monday matinee!

  • BOYGIRLBOYGIRL –  JfEBRUARY 11 – 14, 2021 a SideNotes Cabaret in the Marla Eichmann Studio Theater  featuring “Milwaukee’s Manhattan Transfer.”

What can I do to help Sunset through this difficult time?

On August 1st, we are launching our End-of-Season donation campaign via letter and email. We hope this effort will make up for the shortages experienced with the unforeseen cancellation of 14 revenue-generating productions.

Also, as we move into our 61st season, the safety of our patrons, performers, volunteers, and staff will be our top priority. To keep that promise, we are reducing our Furlan Auditorium seating from 288 to 138 and our Marla Eichmann Studio Theater seating from 88 to 56. This reduction will, of course, affect our bottom line for 2020-21 which means we need your help more than ever.

We understand times are tough for many of us but if everyone reading this email would donate just $25 we would add extra sparkle to the end of our 2019-20 season and more dazzle to the opening of our 2020-21 season.

Final Thoughts

We believe that the arts are more important than ever in these unpredictable times and look forward to once again offering entertainment options for our patrons, performance opportunities for our actors, volunteer activities for those ready to be busy again, and meaningful employment for our staff. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this important information, thank you for your past support, and we hope to see you soon! In the meantime, always remember…

“Entertainment BEGINS
(and with your help)

WILL CONTINUE at Sunset!”
